Anemia, One Of The Problem Nutrition In Indonesia
Anemia is one of the micronutrient nutrition problems faced by Indonesian adolescents. About 12% of boys and 25% of girls have anemia, mostly due to iron deficiency (iron deficiency anemia). Anemia in adolescents has a negative impact on decreased immunity, concentration, learning achievement, fitness and productivity. In addition, in particular, anemia experienced by young women has a more serious impact, why is that?
One of the reasons is because young women have menstruation every month. Menstruation causes the loss of many red blood cells from the body. Especially if menstruation lasts long enough and the amount of blood that comes out is very large, the body will lack iron. In addition, most young women also eat less red meat than young men.
The solution to prevent anemia is to meet these nutritional needs. You may be able to give your teenage daughter iron supplements between meals, for example between breakfast and lunch, or mid-afternoon, between lunch and dinner. This is because iron is best absorbed when given between meals. Second, take iron supplements with foods or drinks rich in vitamin C, such as fruits, vegetables and orange juice. And avoid taking these supplements with milk. Also avoid taking more iron supplements than recommended, because they can be harmful to health.
