Jute (Corchorus olitorius) is an edible leafy vegetable which is a member of genus Corchorus classified under family Malvaceae.

Local names of Jute are Ayoyo (hausa ), Ewedu (yoruba), kerenkeren (igbo)
Ewedu soup is mostly cooked by the Yorubas in Nigeria, it is a slimy soup.
Ewedu soup is mainly eaten with amala, Eba, Fufu,Iyan, Semo and can be combined with local bean soup which is locally known as gbegiri.
