FITNESS

Context in Fitness – Why it matters. And how it can change most fitness advice.

Thank you very much for watching

Context in fitness is very important in fitness and most people don’t provide it. Often giving all encompassing advice without any context or nuance as required. And of course this becomes even more exasperating when these people push products or workouts in the name of better health, or as is common now in the name of immunity.

The first type is the protein bars or calcium tablets that claim to boost immunity. Now these will often say something along the lines of ”Most people don’t get enough protein. This can harm your immunity” and yeah if you are not getting a macro or micronutrient then yeah your immunity will be bad. However that doesn’t mean that you need these products because most of you probably already have enough protein or other macro or micronutrients that you don’t need these products.

Another great example would be protein powder. Now I focus on Horlicks’ Protein Plus, but this can be the case with most other powders. In their ads they state that their protein powder helps stop muscle atrophy after 30 and that it can fit into you exercise routine. Here’s the thing, the most important thing to stop muscle atrophy is exercise, not protein.

And if you are exercising, then if you’re getting enough protein from your meals (0.8 – 1 g per pound of body weight) then you don’t need this protein powder at all.

Context for fitness is very important and before you buy any product or take any advice please do get some context on why and how this product or advice would work.
