Are we getting enough Vitamin D? New study investigates

Viridian Nutrition’s Director of Nutrition Aimee Benbow discusses the findings of a new study where some women in the UK could possibly need more vitamin D.

The human clinical study carried out at the University of Surrey investigated the impact of vitamin D supplementation and found Viridian Vitamin D3 was successful at raising blood plasma levels of this essential nutrient.

From the study, the recommended daily intake for women living in England would be between 15 μg (600 IU) and 37 μg (up to 1490 IU) to meet the optimal threshold by the end of winter. This could vary depending on ethnic background, sun exposure and other factors.

The study confirms that the recommended dose for vitamin D supplementation should not only be country-specific but, more importantly, take into consideration the initial vitamin D concentrations of the individual.
