Vitamin D And COVID-19: Decreased Admission To The ICU And Mortality With Vitamin D Supplementation.

WhiteBoard style discussion on an article published looking at vitamin D supplementation and the need for admission to the intensive care unit for those who were COVID-19 positive with lung radiographic findings concerning for COVID pneumonia. They supplemented the inactive form of Vitamin D known as calcifediol. They found a statistically significant decrease in ICU admission in those who received the calcifediol in comparison to those that did not. Both groups received hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin. We will dive into the pathophysiology of vitamin D and previous studies looking at Vitamin D in regards to COVID-19.
