Coronavirus Immunity: Understanding Memory B And T Cell Immunity, Cross Immunity, And Vaccination.

WhiteBoard style discussion on a recent Viewpoint published in the Journal of the American Medical Association that reviews all things COVID-19 and SARS-CoV-2 virus immunity. We will discuss B cell/plasma cell or antibody mediated immunity, when different antibodies peak, how long they last for, and what this might mean. We will then dive into T cell, both CD4 and CD8, memory responses. How these immune responses are related to severity of disease and whether those who were asymptomatic still mount a memory immune response. We will talk about cross-immunity from other human coronaviruses, many of which cause the common cold. We will then end with a brief look at vaccination strategies and how our understanding of memory immunity can lend towards optimizing vaccination strategies.
