BBC Question Time: On coronavirus mistakes and Brexit bullying

The first edition of BBC Question Time after the summer break saw entrepreneur, billionaire business leader, philanthropist and Phones 4U founder John Caudwell finally agreeing to make his programme debut.

In a week where the Government’s testing system has failed to meet a surge in demand and social restrictions to contain the spread are being tightened with the rule of six, the virtual audience from Oldham – which has been in a semi local lockdown for weeks – were very much focused on questioning the panel on the impact of coronavirus.

There were also questions about the Government’s Internal Market Bill, which has been labelled by critics as breaking international law by undermining the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement with the European Union.

John was joined on the panel by Conservative business minister Nadhim Zahawi, Labour Shadow Health Secretary Matt Hancock (with whom John had a fiery exchange), theoretical epidemiologist and Oxford professor Sunetra Gupta and, dialling in remotely, author and campaigner Nicci Gerrard.
