Coronavirus: UK's Boris Johnson defends testing target as anger grows over backlog, long lineups

During a meeting of the U.K. House of Commons Liaison Committee on Wednesday, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson defended his government’s target of testing 500,000 people daily. He said while they currently don’t have the testing capacity they would like, the target would allow them to make a “substantial difference” in tracking and tracing.

Johnson’s government is facing frustration and anger from residents in the U.K. as lab capacity is leaving people struggling to get a COVID-19 test. People have said they could not make appointments through the government website, while others have been turned away after the lineups at testing centres reached a certain amount.
