Today, I wanna share an healthy Indian drink, touted for its many health benefits.

Golden Milk(Turmeric Milk) aka Haldi Doodh is a comforting drink made with milk, turmeric and warm spices.

Golden Turmeric milk is rich in antioxidants, which help protect cells from damage, fight off disease and infections and contribute to your overall health. Turmeric’s anti-inflammatory properties makes it a perfect drink to have when you are under the weather.

Golden Turmeric Milk is a warming and relaxing drink to enjoy before bed, that you get an extra deep night’s sleep and will never feel the tiredness when you wake up! It ensures sound sleep.

3. Immunity Booster Drink

Golden Turmeric Milk is a great beverage for those with autoimmune conditions. It is a delicious drink loaded with antioxidants that may provide an array of health benefits, ranging from a healthier brain and heart to stronger bones, improved digestion and a lower risk of disease. It’s a wonderful immunity booster drink!

Recipe – servings 2

Ingredients:

21/2 cups – Coconut milk or Almond milk or Cashew milk
1 inch – sliced Turmeric root / 1 Tsp ground Turmeric
1/2 inch – sliced Ginger
5 – 6 whole black peppercorns
1 inch – cinnamon stick
A pinch of Nutmeg powder (optional)
4 – Green crushed Cardamom pods (for flavor)
1 Tsp Coconut oil
1 – 2 tbsp sweetener of your choice (sugar, maple syrup, honey adjust to taste)
Cardamom or Cinnamon powder to serve(optional)

Instructions/Method

1. Add milk to a pot on medium heat.

2. When it is lukewarm, add in all the ingredients(sliced turmeric, sliced ginger, whole peppercorns, cinnamon stick, crushed cardamom, a pinch of nutmeg powder, and coconut oil) over medium heat and bring to a simmer. Simmer for 10 minutes to let the flavors meld.

3. Strain the golden milk through a fine strainer into a glass/mug and add honey to taste.

4. Sprinkle with cinnamon or cardamom powder before serving.

VIOLA! Enjoy your flavourful and fragrant Healthy Golden milk!

Notes:

*Don’t bring the milk to a boil but it should be nicely hot thoroughout.

*You can take any diary or non dairy (Coconut/almond) milk. Cashew milk also tastes good.

*Ingredients can be taken either whole(fresh) or ground(powdered) form.

* Turmeric, Ginger, and Cinnamon are the key ingredients.

*Adding coconut oil helps to absorb all the healing compounds. If you’re using coconut milk, then you can skip adding coconut oil.

*To reap the most health benefits, use a milk with both calcium and vitamin D and limit the amount of honey or syrup you add to your drink.
