Inflammation and Covid-19: The Smoking Gun?

You know that obesity, high blood pressure and heart disease are THE diseases associated with positive cases, hospitalizations and deaths with Covid-19, but do you understand why?

Inflammation.

The key player in most cases of chronic disease. If you look at all bad things that happen to humans health-wise, inflammation IS the devil in the details. All of these conditions above have inflammation as a factor.

Manage inflammation and everything works better. That may be a reason why two people with the same body composition may do totally different with Covid-19 infections–one person may be on fire with inflammation while the other has only minimal.

But keep in mind that all obesity is associated with inflammation, but the level of inflammation can vary greatly with your lifestyle choices.

This means that someone who is overweight, but lives a healthier lifestyle will likely do far better with a same-sized person who eats fast food daily and hasn’t seen the inside of a gym since the Beatles were touring.

Which brings us to this study on inflammation and Covid-19.

In it. researchers looked at two inflammation chemicals (referred to as cytokines), IL-8 and TNF-alpha and found that these two chemicals played a major role in Covid-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths.
