Women likely have greater immune response to fight Covid: Study

A new study, analysing male and female immune responses to Covid-19, may hold the answer to why men are more likely to get seriously ill with the disease. Published in the Journal Nature, the study noted that men account for 60% of Covid-19 induced deaths globally. A professor at Yale University explained that men and women develop different immune responses to Covid-19. After studying samples from patients who received treatment at Yale New Haven Hospital in the United States were taken, it was concluded that women showed a more robsut immune response involving T cells, which can recognise and eliminate viruses. In opposition, men showed weaker T cell activity, which seemed to get worse with age. The study, which did have limitations, may imply that women and men need different kind of treatments.
