COVID-19

Hong Kong man first confirmed case of COVID-19 reinfection

A man in Hong Kong is the very first person to get coronavirus for the second time. While it sounds scary, doctors say it’s not that uncommon. All viruses mutate over time, that means even if you fight off one version, your body could have trouble fighting off the next. That’s why researchers have been hesitant to say whether or not you can get reinfected with novel coronavirus, or COVID-19.

Early research shows antibodies for the virus may only last a few months. But it may not matter. Doctors said the man in Hong Kong who was reinfected showed no symptoms the second time he tested positive. While he didn’t have antibodies to completely protect him from the virus, his immune system was developed enough to prevent a serious infection. #WakeUpCLT #COVID19 #Coronavirus
