I wonder whether using Antihistamine, Vitamin D, Inhalers (salbutamol, Iprotropium), Leukotriene Inhibitor (like Montelukast) help reduce the respiratory complications of Covid 19 if they are started early instead of waiting till symptoms deteriorate.
Most importantly social distancing, hand hygiene, isolation should be practiced to reduce the spread. If anyone is unwell or breathless at rest then they need to see doctor and may need hospital treatment.
However there is a gap in any advice about any therapies which may help reduce worsening of respiratory symptoms once the patient starts with symptoms to the point patient becomes breathless or too unwell. Therefore my hypothesis is that starting some therapies which are generally safe and inexpensive and dont have many high risks can be considered to help manage respiratory symptoms early on to reduce their deterioration.
These 4 types of treatments should only be taken if someone does not have any known side effects to them and after checking from their doctor.
I think in adults over age of 18 years somethings may help reduce respiratory symptoms such as
1. if a patient starts with fever – take antihistamine such as cetirizine 10mg or loratadine 10 mg or fexofenadine 120mg per day for upto 1 to 2 weeks
2. Take vitamin D – colecalciferol 800units to 2000units per day if you have been in contact with someone with Corvid 19 infection or started with symptoms yourself and take it for 2 weeks
3. At the beginning of dry cough or breathlessness at rest start 2 types of inhalers- salbutamol inhaler 2 to 4 puffs every 4 to 6 hours. Also take Ipratropium inhaler 2 puffs four times a day
4. Take leukotriene receptor antagonist such as Montelukast 10mg at night for 2 weeks. Start this at beginning of dry cough.
I have shared more thoughts in the video presentation .
May Allah protect us all against this pandemic of Covid 19.
