VITAMINS
Any of a specific group of organic compounds essential in small quantities for healthy human growth, metabolism, development, and body function; found in minute amounts in plant and animal foods or sometimes produced synthetically; deficiencies of specific vitamins produce specific disorders.

It is a metabolic regulator.
Vitamin theory is given by F.G.Hopkin.
Vitamin – Funk.

Vitamins is of two types
✓ water soluble
∆ B, C, P.
∆ Can’t be stored.
∆ Not harmful when present in excess quantity.

✓ fat soluble
∆ A, D, E, K.
∆ Can be stored i.e., in Liver.
∆ Harmful when present in excess quantity which leads to Hypervitaminism.

Vit B Complex

Sources- Milk, wheat, fruits, vegetables, dry fruits, sprouts, mutton, chicken.

Vit. B1- THYMINE

# Helps in muscular activities.
# Helpful for metabolism.
# After washing of rice- loss of Vitamin B1.

Loss of Vitamin B causes beriberi disease in which —- weak muscles
little energy to work
loss of appetite.

Vit. B2 – RIBOFLAVIN

# Help in child growth.
# Help to see in sunlight.

Loss of Vitamin b2 causes Kilosis disease.

Vit. B3 – NIACIN / NICOTINAMIDE

# Help in the synthesis of fats.
# Decreases in vitamin b3 causes pellagra disease.

Vit. B5 – PENTATONIC ACID

# Regulate the quantity of cholesterol in blood.
# Decreases in vitamin B5 leads to low cholesterol in blood which leads to paralysis disease.

Vit. B6 – PYRIDOXINE

# Help in the formation of RBC.
# Decreases in Vitamin B6 leads to anaemia disease.

Vit. B7 / Vit. H – BIOTIN

# Digestion of carbohydrates.
# Vitamin B7 decreases then leads to dermis disease.

Vit. B9 – FOLIC ACID

# Help in the formation of BLOOD.
# Decreases in vitamin B9 leads to anaemia disease.

Vit. B12 – CYANOCOBALAMIN

# Help information of blood.
# Cobalt is present.
# Decrease and Vitamin B12 leads to anaemia disease.

Vit. C – ASCORBIC ACID

Sources -. Amla, lemon, tomato, citrus fruits, green chilli.

# Presence of Vitamin c in urine.
# No healing of bounds when Vitamin c decreases.
# Also known as Binding Substance.
# Decreases in vitamin c leads to scurvy disease.

Vit. P – HESPIRIDINE

Sources – green vegetables and citrus fruits.

# It controls blood flow in capillaries.
# Vitamin P decreases internal hemorrhage chances will increases.
