Cytokine Storm
In this lecture, we’ll talk over what is known so far about cytokine storm syndrome linked with SARS-CoV-2 infection. This lecture mainly enlightens about the immunological mechanism of immune system hyperactivation of elderly adults or people above 60, which releases a lot of proinflammatory cytokines during COVID-19 leading to CYTOKINE STORM. This is a very serious complication that is emerging in a subset of patients usually old people and is the leading cause of death in these COVID-19 ill patients. Once the cytokine storm occurs, it can cause pneumonia, ARDS and multi-organ failure (MOF).
In contrast to older people, children are mostly asymptomatic, and adults show mild SARS-CoV 2 infection. But older patients and patients with comorbidity are at high risk.
