Russia claims first COVID-19 vaccine as Putin says daughter has been inoculated

Russia has claimed to be the first country to develop a coronavirus vaccine and has given regulatory approval for the inoculation.

The vaccine is still in its final stages of development to test whether it is effective against COVID-19. Russia has said it plans to roll out a mass vaccination program by October and will begin to inoculate health care workers by the end of this month. The vaccine has been tested on 38 people in a month long trial and is said to have produced immunity to the virus, however the strength of the immune response from subjects is not clear. Russia say it will produce 30 million doses internally by the end of the year and it could make up to 170 million to be made available abroad.
