Russia has approved the first COVID-19 vaccine which offers a ‘sustainable immunity’ against this virus. Trials of this vaccine began in June this year. Phase 1 and Phase 2 trials are completed and all of the participants developed immunity.
This new vaccine is named Sputnik V. Sputnik 1 was the first Earth’s satellite launched by the Soviet Union on 4 October 1957. Russia has also claimed that 1 billion doses are pre-ordered by over 20 countries. Putin’s daughter has also taken the vaccine.
Phase 3 trials are yet to be done on it, WHO has urged Russia to follow guidelines and go through all the stages necessary. More than 100 vaccines are being developed and 4 are in final Phase III human trials.
