Vegan chef Elyce Jacobson shares her Top 5 Tips to boost the immune system

Preliminary data and research is beginning to show that what you eat is crucial to surviving Covid-19. Diet-related conditions such as heart disease, obesity, and diabetes are now known to cause severe complications with patients who have contracted the deadly virus. Oftentimes poor diet can lead to inflammation with infected parties, as well as triggering a “cytokine storm,” which can prove to be deadly or severely impede recovery.

Chef Jacobson is an expert in vegan, gluten free and organic cooking, and is certified as a Holistic Health Counselor, trained in healthy eating and plant-based nutrition.
Elyce joins Tésia Worley on Wellness Wednesday sharing her Top 5 healthy cooking and diet practices for boosting your immune system against Covid-19:

Consume superfoods and antioxidants, which can help to reduce inflammation.
Eat more whole plant foods. Whole plant foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and legumes are rich in nutrients and antioxidants that may give you an upper hand against harmful pathogens.
Eat more healthy fats. Healthy fats, like those found in olive oil and avocado, may boost your body’s immune response to pathogens by decreasing inflammation.
Incorporate more natural anti-virals foods like garlic, ginger, turmeric, basil and dandelion.
Limit added sugar. Sugar not only causes inflammation in your body, but also leads to diabetes and obesity which are two of the complicating diseases associated with Covid 19.
