It is always a good idea to have optimal Vitamins in the body and Vitamin D or Vitamin D3 is no exception. It is easy to keep the correct levels of vitamin D in your body. However, right now due to staying indoors it is possible that you will develop the deficiency of vitamin D. Remember apart from Sunlight Food and supplements can keep a good level of Vitamin D, Vitamin D3 in the body. Here is the summary of a recent article about Vitamin D In Corona Virus COVID-19. However, I will still stay with my point that maintaining good Vitamin D, Vitamin d3 in the body is a good idea but it should not be promoted as something that will protect from COVID-19 Coronavirus infection but it may help in fighting the COVID-19 Corona infection if you get one. Evidence that Vitamin D Supplementation Could Reduce Risk of Influenza and COVID-19 Infections and Deaths. During this COVID-19 pandemic. This article reviews the roles of vitamin D in reducing the risk of respiratory tract infections, knowledge about the epidemiology of influenza and COVID-19, and how vitamin D supplementation might be a useful measure to reduce risk. Several observational studies and clinical trials reported that vitamin D supplementation reduced the risk of influenza, whereas others did not. Evidence supporting the role of vitamin D in reducing the risk of COVID-19 includes that the outbreak occurred in winter, a time when 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) concentrations are lowest; that the number of cases in the Southern Hemisphere near the end of summer is low; that vitamin D deficiency has been found to contribute to acute respiratory distress syndrome; and that case-fatality rates increase with age and with chronic disease comorbidity, both of which are associated with lower 25(OH)D concentration. Some more info on Vitamin D. Vitamin D3 Ergocalciferol from plants is called Vitamin D2. Cholecalciferol from the animal tissue is called Vitamin D3. 7 deidro-cholesterol to (UV light) to cholecalciferol (D3) to 25-hydroxylase in the liver to 25 OH D to -hydroxycholecalciferol 1-hydroxylase in the kidney to 1-25 DiOH D3. The deficiency of vitamin D makes people more susceptible to respiratory tract infections. Vitamin D supplements can reduce these infections by 12%. Vitamin D improves the immune system by helping produce cathelicidin and by helping modulate inflammatory cascade. Vitamin D also helps in regulating the immune response. Vitamin D acts on the dendritic cells to inhibit/reduce their differentiation and maturation. Vitamin D helps with cytokine production and cell survival. People with autoimmune diseases commonly have low Vitamin D T and B cells have Vitamin D receptors that help them produce NFk-B In pulmonary infections. Lung epithelial cells can convert inactive vitamin D to its active form. This active Vitamin D then helps produce cathelicidin. Which helps kill the pathogens. Vitamin D seems to favor TH2 and TH17 cell activation which is an anti-inflammatory. Vitamin D seems to reduce the activation of TH1 cells which are pro-inflammatory. A deficiency of vitamin D may dysregulate the inflammatory response of the body. Vitamin D also helps reduce the production of IL6 and IL8. No consensus that oral vitamin D supplements are helpful Keep in mind this is for those who are deficient in this vitamin. If you are not deficient then it will not make a difference. Evidence is not sufficient to say that vitamin D helps prevent respiratory infections.
