As novel coronavirus cases continue to surge across India, the question arises — Is India heading towards herd immunity? The government has, however, denied it. The sero-surveys, which helps to assess the coronavirus situation in the country, have shown some shocking results. This episode of News Unlocked focuses on one such survey conducted in Mumbai. India Today speaks to Professor Sandeep Juneja and Professor Ullas Kolthur to decode the sero-survey of Mumbai.
The first serological survey of Mumbai conducted on 6,936 people in three wards Mumbai found 40.5 per cent of them were exposed to SARS-CoV-2, a virus that causes Covid-19 and had developed antibodies against it. The survey was done in three administrative wards in Mumbai in areas including Matunga (FN), Chembur West (MW) and Dahisar (RN). A survey across all other wards of Mumbai is needed to get a better picture of the overall prevalence in the city.
