Inhaled Interferon Beta (SNG001) For COVID-19: Preliminary Reports Of Reduced Mortality And Symptoms

WhiteBoard style discussion on preliminary reports from Synairgen regarding their randomized, double blinded, placebo controlled trial on SNG001, which is an inhaled interferon beta, for the treatment of COVID-19. They have not yet published the data, so our only information are reports that the company has put out claiming a 79% decrease in mortality/mechanical ventilation and a faster resolution of symptoms as compared to placebo. In this video we will discuss these numbers, what they mean, and what little bit we know so far about the sample population studied. We will also go over the clinical trial itself, including the design and caliber. Lastly, we will discuss the mechanism of action of inhaled interferon beta, why it may work, and what we know so far about its applicability to coronavirus infections, including SARS and MERS.
