There has been some uncertainty around eggs in the past and people have been hesitant to include them into their daily diet. I am going to give you the latest finding and break some of the myths that have been going around in the health and fitness community.

The first thing to consider is that an egg must be packed with many nutrients to be able to create life in the way of a baby chick.

Eggs are packed with all these nutrients calories, proteins, healthy fats, folate, calcium, zinc, phosphorus, selenium, vitamin A, vitamin B5, vitamin B12, vitamin B2, vitamin D, vitamin K and vitamin B6.

The Australian Heart Foundation found that eggs contained omega 3 fatty acids which are healthy fats and good for our bodies. They found that Omega 3 fatty acids can lower your heart rate and rhythm, decrease the risk of clotting, reduce blood pressure levels, improve blood vessel function, and delay the build-up of plaquein coronary arteries. The Australian Heart foundation lifted the limit on how many eggs healthy Australians can eat in a week. For people with heart disease, high cholesterol or Type 2 diabetes, it’s best to eat fewer than seven eggs a week.

Okay now that we have established that eggs are good for you lets go into the benefits of eating 2 eggs a day.

1. Eggs keep you fuller for longer and therefore help with weight-loss. Eggs will keep you full for a few hours which means you are less likely to eat other food meaning you will lose more weight.

2. Maintain eye health- eggs are packed with nutrients like lecithin and many others which can help prevent age related issues like macular degeneration and cataracts. Eggs also contain zeaxanthin which protects your eyes from UV rays and also omega 3 fatty acids can help protect against retinal damage. Eggs also contain Vitamin A which protects the cornea.

3. Eggs keep your bones healthy- studies have shown that eggs yolks improve bone metabolism and help to prevent the risk of osteoporosis. The vitamin D in whole eggs helps to protect the bones, Phosphorus to keep your bones healthy and calcium to help with the density in bones.

4. Eggs help to prevent iron deficiency- eggs contain iron so eating 2 eggs a day can help prevent iron deficiency.

5. Help with brain health- eggs contain choline which is beneficial for fetal brain development and also for helping to prevent birth defects.

Not all eggs are the same I recommend organic free range eggs. If these are outside your budget I would recommend free-range at minimum.

In a few recent studies done, it has been shown that eating at least two eggs a day has been shown to lower bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol.

I hope that this has reassured you that it is fine to eat eggs as part of a healthy diet and the benefits it will have on your health.
